listed cottage extension
Set within the Marshfield Conservation Area, this Grade II listed cottage extension has provided our clients with the additional, practical accommodation to support and increase the viability and sustainability of the property as a family home.
Using their extensive conservation experience with listed and heritage buildings, hmad|architects achieved a sensitive design in line with best practice conservation principles and the project was completed in Autumn 2022.
Works to the existing building to achieve this scheme included the demolition of an existing outbuilding, building a new boundary wall, with the single storey extension providing an enlarged family room and associated internal reordering to improve internal circulation.

"hmad have been absolutely brilliant throughout the whole process of our new kitchen extension. They listened to our brief and came up with such a clever design which made the best use of a tight and tricky space, whilst making sure the materials used would be sympathetic to the age of the listed Cotswold stone cottage we were building on to. They had to contend with stringent listed building and conservation regulations and really did provide us with an extension which feels modern but so in keeping with the historic original house. Their suggestions on how to make the house flow from the old to the new areas were really clever and we are so happy with the end result! We now have our dream family kitchen thanks to hmad!"
